I go to Arizona State and I have to say that I have been impressed by what I have seen so far this year. Dennis Erickson has come into the Desert and brought his college golden touch with him. However what I had the displeasure of seeing on Thanksgiving night was by and far one of the biggest ass whoopings I have ever seen.
USC played what I am calling as close to a perfect game as they could play. The only thing keeping it from being a perfect game are a few stupid penalties. However no matter how you put IT the Trojans were able to put together one of the finest games that you can ask for. Their offense was clicking on all cylinders from start to finish, and the defense completely impenetrable.
Arizona State on the other hand finally showed that they were playing above their heads the whole season. The offense was pitiful for the most part, and the defense couldn't do anything to stop the unstoppable. Also the special teams was off for most of the game as well, other than that impressive kick return by Rudy Burgess.
Although this loss does take ASU out of the National Title hunt and effectivly ends their hopes at the Pac-10 title and a Rose Bowl birth. Lets not forget last year this team was 7-6 (4-6 in the Pac-10). This year the Devils are 9-2 and still as of right now are going to the Sun Bowl and can still go to the Holiday Bowl with a Oregon or USC loss.
Although the other night Showed that the Devils still have a long way to come to be at the level of USC and the other elite teams in the country. What you have to take away from this is that ASU is still in a magical season and that only good things can come from here.
