Let's go bowling

Last week I wrote about rivarly week. Now that it has passed it's time for the second most excting time of the year for college sports (behind March Maddness)....Bowl Season.

Now eventally i'll put up every single one of my bowl picks up here, they will be the picks that i'll use in the Pitchfork Nation bowl pickem contest. You can also hear my predictions on the 7'oclock Strech with Todd Weber and Justin Ienuso on The Blaze 1260 AM on Tuesday December 7th at 6 p.m. MST.

Ok enough of my shameless plugging. Now it's down to the nitty gritty bowl season. And of couse like we all knew what would happen the BCS screwed everything up. However the BCS did what it was designed to do, spit out the top two teams in the nation. Now weither or not Ohio State and LSU are the two best teams in the nation are a diffrent debate. What we have to remember is that Bowl Season is magical.

We have a bunch of teams now playing their final games, and most if not all of them are going to be on TV. thats nearly a solid month straight of college football everynight, wo cares if it's two teams that suck, it's still football.

You going to be seeing a bunch of players that will be getting their only national television exposure of the year and possibly of their carrears now. So you have to hope and assume that they are going to play their heart out and do their best.

So although the big bowls game shave the big name teams, and mos tof the people you'll be seeing on Sunday in the next few years. Don't forget to watch the lesser bowls, they need your love to.

So I know that this Blog post didn't really follow any perticular linear line of ranting, but hey lets not forget this is rantings of a Madman not rantings of a Saneman.

It's that time...time to hate

Every year in the college football season the end of the season is marked by certain things. Navy being accepted into the the Poinsettia Bowl, Thanksgiving, the cold, and of course the rivalry game.

Now of course rivalry games will happen thoughout the entire season. But those are essentially warm up games usually for your team's biggest rival. Of course we are always privy to the rivalrys that ESPN sees fit to build up as the biggest games in the nation. However to most people they don't need to be told if a game is big or not they just feel it.

From the biggest rivarlys of the BCS conferences like the Iron Bowl, the Cocktail Party, The Duel in the Desert, the Big Game, The Holy War, and others that are to numerable to name. To the smaller games of the Division II like The Bayou Classic (Grambling and Southern), Brawl of the Wild (Montana and Montana State), or of course The Game (Harvard and Yale). Everyone has a rival.

You learn to hate your rival lothe them with every fabric of your being. But yet there is a grudging respect for them as you know that deep down you don't want anyone else to beat them but you.

Some people will even defend their rivals to other people, saying that only you are allowed to insult them. There is nothing like a college football rivalry the professional sports try to compare but there isn't a comparison. These games hold bragging rights for a whole year, some people will live and die by these games.

All I know is that I have have been fourtnate to be a part of two great rivarlies and they are the best. So sit back relax and cheer hard for your team for this is game for the whole year. And don't listen to ESPN about what the biggest games are, the biggest game is the one that matters to you.

It sure was an ass whooping.

I go to Arizona State and I have to say that I have been impressed by what I have seen so far this year. Dennis Erickson has come into the Desert and brought his college golden touch with him. However what I had the displeasure of seeing on Thanksgiving night was by and far one of the biggest ass whoopings I have ever seen.

USC played what I am calling as close to a perfect game as they could play. The only thing keeping it from being a perfect game are a few stupid penalties. However no matter how you put IT the Trojans were able to put together one of the finest games that you can ask for. Their offense was clicking on all cylinders from start to finish, and the defense completely impenetrable.

Arizona State on the other hand finally showed that they were playing above their heads the whole season. The offense was pitiful for the most part, and the defense couldn't do anything to stop the unstoppable. Also the special teams was off for most of the game as well, other than that impressive kick return by Rudy Burgess.

Although this loss does take ASU out of the National Title hunt and effectivly ends their hopes at the Pac-10 title and a Rose Bowl birth. Lets not forget last year this team was 7-6 (4-6 in the Pac-10). This year the Devils are 9-2 and still as of right now are going to the Sun Bowl and can still go to the Holiday Bowl with a Oregon or USC loss.

Although the other night Showed that the Devils still have a long way to come to be at the level of USC and the other elite teams in the country. What you have to take away from this is that ASU is still in a magical season and that only good things can come from here.

A bit on the NBA.

Ok i don't pretend to be an expert on the NBA, if anything it's probably the sport I know the least about out of the big 4 (and if you don't know what the big 4 are leave now). However there is one thing I do know about the NBA and that is, this has to be one of the most boring NBA finals ever. I don't know why the NBA has such a hardon for the Spurs but once again they are going to get what they want a Spurs sweep in the finals. Mainly because the Cavs are a decent team in the NBA, not good, definatly not great but a solid team. However in the Eastern conference they are the elite, and thats just sad. But I digress, why is this one of the most boring NBA finals ever? Because nothing is happening in it. There are no superstars taking over the games, no controversies to talk about, just one great team against the Fighting LeBrons. Speaking of Lebron where the fuck has he been this entire series? He has gone 22-60 in the finals so far, not to good for the heir to His Airness.
The Spurs are just a great team, much like the Patriots, they have one or two big name players but the team works together as a whole. For big fans of basketball the Spurs are probally one of the greatest things out there to watch just to watch them work together as a whole, much like the neutral zone trap is one of my favorite things to watch in hockey but is boring to pretty much everyone else.
But no matter what happens in game 4 tonight there is nothing stopping the Spurs from winning another NBA title and securing there place as a dynasty, nothing at all. ONly if Lebron can channel Wilt Chamberlan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Dr. J, and Jordan will the Cavs be able to stop the Spurs.

A first post

Ok I have nothing for this first post as i really am making this on the spot. However in the future i will grace this pages with my pearls of sports wisdom, or lack thereof depending on who you are. So like my opinions or hate them this is where they will come, all of you have been warned.
